About Justice 250
Justice 250 is a civic program celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and the judiciary’s vital role in our democracy.
Justice 250 is a special event that took place on the USS Midway Museum on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Justice 250 was designed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the groundwork it laid for our U.S. Constitution. The spark of an idea was to bring together the entire local community to celebrate the history of our nation, our judicial system, its role in our democracy, and the rule of law.
This event began development in late 2025 and has been a true collaboration among numerous prominent members of our San Diego legal community. It is co-hosted by:
- United States District Court for the Southern District of California
- Superior Court of California, County of San Diego
- California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One
- San Diego County District Attorney’s Office
- San Diego County Office of the Public Defender
- San Diego Office of the City Attorney
- United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California
- Federal Defenders of San Diego, and
- San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA)
- County of San Diego County Counsel
Justice 250 featured speeches by prominent California legal community leaders who have committed to the event. The primary goal is to have attendees from across our community learn about their Constitutional rights and legal resources available in San Diego County, including business leaders, school children, veterans, and anyone interested in learning more about our courts.
Major funding for this event is thanks in part to the Joseph J. Wheeler Educational Fund for Civility, Integrity and Professionalism, as well as the United States District Court,. Southern District of California. Learn more companies and institutions sponsoring the event by clicking here.
Justice 250 featured close to 40 Partners in Justice on site, including the SDCBA, local bar organizations, law schools, and other legal organizations and community groups where the attendees could learn more about their good work in expanding access to justice and accessibility to our courts.
Justice 250 is all about promoting confidence in the judicial branch and giving the citizens of the County of San Diego an understanding of the court system so they are comfortable using it.
